The upcoming Informal Conversation, "Across North America and Beyond: Learning from our Canadian Colleagues," will be held on March 19th from 12-1 pm EST. It will be co-presented by Kathryn Proudfoot, MSc, RD, Senior Director Patient and Family Partnerships & Experience, Quality, Safety, and Experience at the Provincial Services Health Authority in British Columbia and Marie McNaughton, MEd, Family and Youth Engagement Coordinator, Patient and Family Centred Care Team at Alberta Children’s Hospital in Calgary.
Topics will include a patient and family engagement framework, patient safety, patient engagement in hiring panels, and advisory councils.

Meritorious Service Medal Awarded to Liz Crocker |
|
IPFCC is thrilled to announce that Liz Crocker, Vice Chair of the IPFCC Board of Directors is being awarded the prestigious Meritorious Service Medal by Canada’s Governor General in Ottawa on March 18th. She is being recognized for her pioneering work establishing Halifax's Discovery Centre alongside long-time Dalhousie physics professor Dr. Gerhard Stroink. Dr. Richard Goldbloom, formerly Chief of Pediatrics and Director of Research at IWK Hospital for Children, has died but will be receiving the Medal posthumously. Liz’s many IPFCC friends and colleagues know her work as a tireless advocate for children and families, an inspiring seminar faculty member, the lead author for Privileged Presence: Personal Stories of Connections in Health Care, and a founding owner of Woozles, the oldest children’s bookstore in Canada.

The Sankofa Infant Mental Health (IMH) History Project™ is a multi-year effort led by the Indigo Cultural Center, focused on retrieving the healing and relational wisdom from our pasts, cultures, and communities and telling a fuller history of IMH. A film has been produced, and the fee starts at $35.

Black Patients Co-Designing Cancer Screening Campaign at Alameda Health System Through the Black Patient Care Initiative (BPCI), the Alameda Health System (AHS) piloted this novel approach to center patient voices. With a focus on developing a cancer screening campaign, AHS gave BPCI’s patients and community members co-design and co-decision-making authority, weighted their votes, and ensured they had the final say on matters related to patient experience.

CMS Patient Safety Structural Measures
The CMS PSSM is now located on the CDC website. Beginning April 1, 2026, hospitals participating in the Hospital Inpatient Quality Reporting (IQR) and the Prospective Payment System (PPS)-Exempt Cancer Hospital Quality Reporting (PCHQR) Programs will be asked to post their PSSM data on the portal.
It is expected that the portal will only be open for six weeks.
