IPFCC’s 30th Anniversary Celebration

On November 15, 2022, IPFCC celebrated its 30th Anniversary with a special virtual event, Transforming Health Care Through Partnerships: A Vision for the Future of PFCC. We highlighted achievements in the field by honoring the 2022 IPFCC Partnership Award recipients and explored the future of patient- and family-centered care with an inspiring panel. Thank you all for supporting IPFCC as we reach this important milestone! If you missed the live Celebration, a recording of the event is available here.

The Intersection of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion with Pediatric Patient and Family Advisory Councils

IPFCC's Pam Dardess and Deborah Dokken are co-authors of a new article in the Patient Experience Journal presenting results from a mixed methods study of children’s hospitals’ patient and family advisory councils (PFACs). The article focuses on PFAC diversity, exploring barriers, drivers, and enablers of recruitment, retention, and engagement of patient and family advisors with diverse perspectives and backgrounds. The work was done in conjunction with a team from the Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center led by Dr. Ndidi Unaka, and with funding support from the Lucile Packard Foundation for Children's Health. Optimizing Pediatric Patient Safety in the Emergency Care Setting

The American Academy of Pediatrics recently revised the policy statement titled “Patient Safety in the Emergency Care Setting.” This is the first joint policy statement by the American Academy of Pediatrics, the American College of Emergency Physicians, and the Emergency Nurses Association to address pediatric patient safety in the emergency care setting. This policy statement outlines the recommendations necessary for EDs to minimize pediatric medical errors and to provide safe care for children of all ages. Read the statement here.
