Jim Conway

Jim Conway is a visionary leader, innovator, teacher, and friend who has inspired countless health care organizations, both here and abroad, in elevating patient- and family-centered care to a level never imagined. His distinguished career in health care has included executive leadership positions at Dana Farber Cancer Institute, Boston Children’s Hospital, and the Institute for Healthcare Improvement. A retired adjunct lecturer at the Harvard School of Public Health, Jim is recognized for his expertise in governance, executive leadership, patient safety, crisis management, change management, and patient- and family-centered care. Jim is a Lifetime Fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives and has served as a Distinguished Advisor to the Lucian Leape Institute for the National Patient Safety Foundation.

Margaret Murphy

Margaret Murphy

Margaret Murphy, External Lead Advisor for the World Health Organization’s Patients for Patient Safety (PFPS) program, has been a patient safety advocate in her home country of Ireland and across the world. She is particularly interested in education as a vehicle to achieve open disclosure, transparency and sustainable culture change. Margaret became engaged in this work after the death of her adult son due to medical error. She believes that adverse events have the potential to be catalysts for change, opportunities for learning, areas for identifying improvement and preventing recurrence. Margaret is also a long-time friend of IPFCC.
